BANGKOK SITUATION UPDATE: Tourists encouraged to still visit

BANGKOK SITUATION UPDATE

Greetings from Thailand.

As you are already aware, Thailand is preparing for future elections scheduled on Sunday February, 1st 2014. The population has planned anti-government rallies in around Bangkok as of Monday 13 January 2014.  The rallies are aimed to put pressure on the current Government to step down.  There will be rallies at 20 intersections in Bangkok, but the focus will be government offices in specific areas to keep officials from working.  For other areas around Bangkok, we expect traffic disruptions near the protest sites and some travel routes would take longer time than usual. The anti-government protesters have vowed to permit at least one lane of traffic to flow on every road. They have also promised not to disrupt airport operations or public transit.

The below link provides further details:

As you will notice from the above link, these are only in specific areas of Bangkok and NOT Bangkok and Thailand as a whole. Thus destinations, not excluding Bangkok, such as Pattaya, Phuket, Chaing Mai, Chiang Rai and other major tourist  destinations are operating normally.
